RESEARCH DATABASES (To access these from your home computer, get Bookmark with
passwords from the media center.)
Science Resource Center - UserName = holiday
Password = season
In the right-hand box, scroll down to:
“Science Resource Center”
Click on: Person Search (Click: All results)
Type person last name, first name in box.
Ex: Kepler, Johannes
Collection – Click on “Person Search.”
Type: “person’s last name, first name” in Search box.
Ex: “Kepler, Johannes”
Facts on File - Under Science, click on “Science Online.” Click on “Biographies.”
Type: “person’s last name, first name” in box.
3. Using Microsoft Publisher
Under “Wizards,” select “Newsletters.”
Cancel the “Personal Information” box.
the wizard, click on Finish.
Click on “Hide Wizard” in the left column.
ONCE A TEMPLATE IS SELECTED, CHANGE TEXT AND GRAPHICS TO CREATE YOUR PUBLICATION!
Click on the graphics and text to make changes.
4. For graphics – pictures
In addition to getting pictures from your web sites, use:
Microsoft Publisher Clip Art - From the file menu, select:
Insert, Picture ---Clip Art ---Clips Online
Google Image Search - Go to: www.google.com
Click on: Images
Type in your term(s). Enclose phrases in “quotation marks.”
5. Saving your work - SAVE OFTEN!!
From the file menu, select: SAVE AS
From the “save in” menu, save to your “h” drive or to a disk (“a” drive).
Name your file. Click: SAVE.
Never save to the “C” drive.
(When you choose “save” and not “save as” the first time, you are saving to the C drive.)
